LAWMAKERS APPROVE BOARD NOMINEES AND BILLS IN LEGISLATIVE SESSION 

ST. THOMAS, VI — The 36th Legislature of the Virgin Islands, led by Senate President Milton E. Potter convened into Regular Legislative Session. Lawmakers considered nominations to various boards and vetted various bills.  

Lawmakers approved the following board nominees:  

  • Dr. Safiya George to serve on the VI Government Hospital and Health Facilities Corporation, District Governing Board of St. Thomas/St. John. 
  • Mr. Anthony Mardenborough, Jr. to serve on the Board of Career and Technical Education – St. Croix. 
  • Mrs. Elizabeth Guadalupe-Perez to serve on the Virgin Islands Real Estate Appraisers Board 
  • Mrs. Trinity Granger-Austrie, EIT to serve on the University of the Virgin Islands Board of Trustees. 

Additionally, lawmakers approved the following bills: 

  • Bill No. 36-0028, An Act approving the lease agreement between the Government of the Virgin Islands and Tropical Marine, Inc., for Parcel No. 37-1 Estate Nadir, No. 2 Red Hook Quarter, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands and a portion of unsurveyed Estate Nadir, No. 2. Red Hook Quarter, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. The measure was proposed by Senator Milton E. Potter by request of the Governor.  
  • Bill No. 36-0038, An act amending title 29 Virgin Islands Code, chapter 10, subchapter III, section 551, subsection (a) by increasing the limit for outstanding bonds for the Virgin Islands Port Authority from $100 million to $350 million. The measure was proposed by Senator Milton E. Potter.  
  • Bill No. 36-0040, An Act approving the lease agreement between the Government of the Virgin Islands and Charles M. Kim V.I. Foundation, Inc. d/b/a Virgin Islands Museum of Art, for a portion of Lot No. 48b Norre Gade, Kings Quarter, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. The measure was proposed by Senator Milton E. Potter by request of the Governor.  
  • Bill No. 36-0047, An act amending Act No. 8920 to appropriate $25,000,000 from the Southern Trust Company Settlement to pay retroactive wages for the retired and active government employees and for other purposes. The measure was sponsored by Senators Novelle E Francis Jr., Milton E. Potter, Kurt A. Vialet, Clifford A. Joseph, Sr., and Marvin A. Blyden.  

Senators present at today’s Legislative Session included Milton E. Potter, Kenneth L. Gittens, Marvin A. Blyden, Angel L. Bolques, Jr., Dwayne M. DeGraff, Ray Fonseca, Novelle E. Francis, Jr., Alma Francis Heyliger, Hubert L. Frederick, Marise C. James, Franklin D. Johnson, Carla J. Joseph, Clifford A. Joseph, Sr., Avery L. Lewis, and Kurt A. Vialet.
