LEGISLATURE MOURNS THE PASSING OF TAX ASSESSOR IRA MILLS

ST. THOMAS – The Members of the 36th Legislature of the Virgin Islands are saddened by the news of the passing of Tax Assessor Ira Mills.

Senate President Milton E. Potter stated, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of yet another Virgin Islands Stalworth. Mr. Mills served as Director of the Office of Management & Budget under the late Governor Charles W. Turnbull and was instrumental in helping to lead our territory through some challenging financial times. A dedicated public servant, Ira was known for his professionalism and for his unwavering commitment to the Virgin Islands community.”

Mills was appointed Tax Assessor of the Virgin Islands by Lieutenant Governor Gregory R. Francis in February 2013. Mills began his tenure at the Lieutenant Governor’s Office in January 2011. He previously served as the Director of Business and Financial Management before being appointed Tax Assessor. Mills also served as Chief Financial Officer of the Virgin Islands Housing Authority and Director of the Virgin Islands Office of Management and Budget. Mills was educated at the University of the Virgin Islands with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Cincinnati.
