
ST. THOMAS – The 34th Legislature of the Virgin Islands will join with Governor Albert Bryan, Jr. and Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett to remember those who have fallen victim to COVID-19 in the territory today, January 19, at 6 p.m., as part of a national remembrance of the many lives lost during this global pandemic.
The virtual event, organized by The 59th Presidential Inaugural Committee of President-Elect Joseph Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris, includes displaying amber or white lights at places of business and the tolling of bells at 6:30 p.m. at places of worship.
Collectively, the Virgin Islands have lost 24 persons to date. At the Legislature’s building on St. Croix, lighting will be displayed in solidarity with the event.
“We recognize and honor the lives of those who have been stricken by this disease and hold their memory dear to our hearts,†Senate President Donna A. Frett-Gregory said. “May their loved ones find comfort, as we continue to fight for the health and safety of Virgin Islanders and all persons across the nation.
The Legislature is pleased to participate with the executive and judicial branches of government in paying homage during this virtual memorial to the lives of individuals across the county.
