LEGISLATIVE YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL PINNING CEREMONY HELD

ST. THOMAS- The Legislative Youth Advisory Council (LYAC), led by Senator Samuel Carrión, held a Pinning Ceremony at the Earle B. Ottley Legislative Chambers.
Senator Carrión encouraged council members to wear their pins proudly and to stay focused on their duties. Senator Genevieve R. Whitaker gave brief comments. “You are the leaders. You are the future, so it is up to you to ensure our territory is heading in the right direction. ”
The organization of the 2nd Legislative Youth Advisory Council is as follows:

“These young people are the future leaders of our territory, and in this capacity, they did not only serve as Council Members but as a true gauge on issues affecting the youth of the Virgin Islands,” Senate President Donna A. Frett-Gregory said.
The LYAC is comprised of sixteen voting members, and four members of the senate, who act as non-voting members. Eight members represent the St. Thomas-St. John District and eight represent the St. Croix District. Furthermore, LYAC is charged with advising the Legislature on proposed and pending legislation, budget expenditures, and policy matters related to youth; consulting with study commissions, committees, and taskforces regarding issues related to youth; and conducting periodic seminars for its members regarding leadership, civic, government, and the Legislature of the Virgin Islands.
