Committee on Culture, Youth, Aging, Sports and Parks
The Committee on Culture, Youth, Aging, Sports, and Parks will convene a hearing on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Cleone Creque Legislative Annex on St. John. The purpose of the hearing is to receive testimony and updates from the Department of Sports, Parks & Recreation on youth and aging services and programs for St. John. The discussion will focus on their mission to provide high-quality, accessible programs, services, and facilities that enhance the quality of life for residents of all ages, cultures, and abilities.
Additionally, the Department of Human Services will present an overview and updates on their youth and aging services and programs for St. John, including a specific update on the Senior Center, Head Start Facility, and the Multi-Purpose Building for the island. The department is also requested to provide a detailed report on the services currently offered to St. John residents, as well as those not currently available. Furthermore, they are asked to include information on any plans to introduce the services not yet offered and timelines for implementation, if applicable. This will help ensure a comprehensive understanding of the resources and future developments intended to meet the needs of the St. John community.

The discussion will also highlight the department’s future plans and initiatives aimed at fostering inclusivity, enhancing community engagement, and promoting overall wellness for residents of all ages and abilities on the island.

This aims to ensure a thorough understanding of existing youth and aging resources, address service gaps, and explore strategies to meet the diverse and evolving needs of the St. John community.
