St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands – Members of the 35th Legislature, led by Senate Vice President Marvin A. Blyden, hosted a Special Ceremony to honor the extraordinary contributions of Dr. Alfred O. Heath, M.D. in the fields of pharmacy and medicine in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
During the ceremony, Senator Blyden expressed deep admiration for Dr. Heath’s impact on the community, stating, “Dr. Heath is and will forever be remembered as one of the most multi-talented individuals the Virgin Islands has ever produced. He was not only a philanthropist and physician but also a commissioner. His vast contributions, particularly to Seaview Nursing Home, which provided essential care for seniors, will leave a legacy that cannot be fully replaced.”
Senator Ray Fonseca also shared remarks, describing Dr. Heath as a humanitarian and local hero. “We are here to honor an exceptional man. His legacy will live on through a bronze statue that will be erected in the Educators Park on St. Thomas, symbolizing his lasting impact on our community,” Fonseca shared.
In a heartfelt audio recording played during the ceremony, Dr. Heath expressed his gratitude, thanking everyone for recognizing and honoring him. His words resonated with all in attendance, adding a personal touch to the celebration of his remarkable life and contributions.
The Virgin Islands Council of the Arts has been commissioned to oversee the construction of the statue, which will honor Dr. Heath’s remarkable life and service. A total of $200,000 has been appropriated from the General Fund of the Virgin Islands Government for the creation and erection of the bronze likeness of Dr. Heath.
Dr. Heath’s contributions to medicine, elder care, and the community at large will be forever memorialized, ensuring his influence continues to inspire future generations.
