Statement from Senate President Francis on Passing of VIFEMS Director Daryl “Mousey” George, Sr.
Published: Oct 24, 2023
Senate President Novelle E. Francis, Jr. today issued the following statement upon learning of the passing of Daryl “Mousey” George, Sr., the Director of the Virgin Islands Fire and Emergency Management Services:
“Mousey’s passing is a huge loss to the public safety and first responders’ community. The entire territory has benefited from his leadership, vision and advocacy.”
“I appreciate that I was able to work with him to accomplish the integration of Fire Services with Emergency Medical Services to form what is now the Virgin Islands Fire and Emergency Medical Services (VIFEMS). Accomplishing the merger of Fire with EMS was Mousey’s life work. He never wavered in his conviction that the creation of VIFEMS was the right and best choice in our mission to provide comprehensive emergency services to the territory’s residents and visitors. I am thankful that he was able to see his vision successfully become a reality.”
“This loss will be felt for a long time. Mousey leaves behind an indelible legacy of fairness, balance and dedication. His efforts paved the way for improvements in fire safety and emergency response that will certainly stand the test of time.”
On behalf of the members of the 35th Legislature, I offer our deepest sympathies to his family, friends, colleagues and the men and women of the Virgin Islands Fire and Emergency Medical Services. May he rest in peace.
